Great melodic hardcore from Queens, NY. In this collection is the three excellent tracks from the Free For All comp recorded live at CBGB in 1989, a live set at WNYU (Crucial Chaos) recorded in June of '87, the band's first 7" from 1985 with vocalist Anthony Comunale (later of Raw Deal/Killing Time) on vocals, and 4 unreleased tracks from the same sessions. Enjoy.
Token Entry Rarities
Original 1985 lineup:
Anthony Comunale - vocals
Mickey Neal - guitar
Johnny Steigerwald - bass
Ernie Parada - drums
1987-1989 lineup:
Timmy "Chunks" McArdle - vocals
Mickey Neal - guitar
Johnny Steigerwald - bass
Ernie Parada - drums
Arthur Smilios (Gorilla Biscuits, CIV) also played guitar for the band during this time, and is on the band's 1987 album "Jaybird".
The "Free For All" comp LP was released on Hawker Records in 1989 and also features tracks by Wrecking Crew, Rest in Pieces and No For An Answer, all recorded live at CBGB.
Token Entry formed around 1980 as Gilligan's Revenge and changed their name to before their first release. They recorded their self-released 7", and 2 excellent albums between 1985-1989. "From Beneath The Streets" released on Positive Force Records in 1987 and "Jaybird" released on Hawker/Roadrunner in 1988. Sometime during '89, Mickey and Johnny were replaced by Matt Citarella and Richie Acham and they released their final album, The Weight of the World in 1990.

By any chance have you ever come across the unreleased Token Entry Lp. I think it was recorded prior to "From Beneath The Streets"
ReplyDeleteI linked you up to me blog today. www.rocketsciencerecords.blogspot.com
I've definitely never heard of an unreleased Token Entry album. I'd love to hear the Gilligan's Revenge demo though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. I just added you as well.
www.matwrecords.com had advertised a few years back that they were going to release the unreleased Token Entry Lp but nothing ever came of it. I had 2 or 3 tracks from the Gilligans Revenge demo but I lost them a year ago when my hard drive crashed. I would also like to find that demo.
ReplyDeleteNice one, I hadn't heard the WNYU set. Killer!
ReplyDeleteSomeone actually posted the other 6 (or so) unreleased tracks from the "Ready Or Not..." session somewhere on the net. I downloaded them and still have those on my computer at home.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has the Gilligan's Revenge demo, do post.
Great to finally hear the Ready or Not stuff. I still prefer Timmy's vocals over Anthony's. Got any good quality Carl the Mosher fronting Underdog?
ReplyDeleteI just got the unreleased tracks today (it's 4, not 6), so i may either update this collection or make another one with some other live sets i have. I'd love to hear the Gilligan's Revenge demo myself.
ReplyDeleteRinjo, i'm pretty sure i have the demo with Carl singing for Underdog. The quality's not too hot unfortunately.
Tried downloading it twice, track 18 seems to be corrupt and doesn't extract...anyone else has that problem?
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem. I can play all tracks from the zip except 18 but I cannot unzip the file.
ReplyDeleteI'll check on this problem after work today. It should be fixed soon.
ReplyDeleteI fixed the file. Track 18 should play fine now.
ReplyDeletehi thanx for the great token entry post
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is still having a problem with track 18, please let me know.

I just recently got the GR demo from Johnny (Token Entry) He's going to send me the unreleased TE album when he transfers it. I'll send both to Dave G. and he can rip it for you Vin. I wish I still had that ad Dave is talking about. Would make for a nice cover.
ReplyDeleteJames! Damn, i can't wait to hear that stuff. Thanks a million.

Thanx. I had ''Jaybird'' on tape at about 89/90. But it's lost for a long time and somehow I forgot about TE. Nice to listen again to some stuff of this very fine band.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
ReplyDeleteI just got this tape and can't find any info on it, stormy do know when it was released?
ReplyDeleteHi, can you please re-post this? Thank you!
