Assfactor 4 - 1993-2000 Discography

Frantic and emotional hardcore from the '90s. Incredible stuff. This is the majority of the band's discography, aside from 2 tracks they recorded for a split 7" with Rights Reserved.

  1. i had some stuff from this band at one point and i was really into it in small bursts, but it seemed like some of it kind of ran together when i listened to it. regardless, i remember thinking they rip and i need to give them another shot.

this is a killer blog already.

  2. "Smoked Out", the 2nd Assfactor 4 7" had a short essay on the back cover that explained what "assfactors" were. Basically the obstacles that prevent us from living the kinds of lives we want to, like bosses or cops or parents. And the point of the band was to overcome these obstacles, to refuse to acknowledge them. I was 18 when the single came out and had just moved away from my mostly-straightedge upstate NY community to Ohio, and I didn't know a single other drug-free kid. I related to the song "Smoked Out" on such an intense, literal level: "I can't breathe out here/I can't take the shit/I know it's here to stay it's been here for good... and I have been smoked out." I felt crazy a lot of the time and it was really helpful for me to hear that song. But I felt like it contradicted the message on the back of the single about assfactors, and I wrote the band a letter to explain my confusion about the two. One of them wrote me back, saying that he understood my point and that he would like to respond to me in more detail but he was so head-over-heels in new love it was all he could think about. And he apologized for not being able to respond more thoughtfully. It was pretty amazing. Anyway, it's really nice to hear these singles for the first time in awhile. I never liked the LPs but am excited to check them out now.

  3. It's great that you have collected these. I have the split with Rights Reserved if you need it to complete the collection. Actually, they have a demo tape, which I am missing myself. These guys were great, such an awesome live band and really fun to be around.

  4. James, thanks for the offer. I have the Rights Reserved split as well, but didn't include it because i wanted to keep the collection under 80 minutes. I've always thought the songs on that split was their weakest material. Still great, don't get me wrong, just not up to par with everything else.

  5. JAmes Joyce/Stormy Please put the Right Reserved Split on here. Those songs were freaking brilliant. I have the
Big Pants Waste Precious Fabric wma if you wanted too. It has the
12 Years Of Living Hell version that is so very awsome.
