Update 6/23/10 - Uploads, news and other bullshit

Hey, it's been a while. Sorry for the lack of updates, i'll blame it on my crazy work schedule and the fact that i'm working on 3 things at once (bad idea). In the works: Hogan's Heroes 2xCD, Absolution remastered 2xCD and a tribute to Sid Sludge (An amazing sounding Mental Abuse live 1985 soundboard set from CBGB and the complete Outgroup "Bleecker St. demos"). Whatever gets finished first goes up first. Other stuff that will be up in the near future: Nunfuckers 30+ track discography, Rain Like the Sound of Trains discography, Youth of Today rarities, Born Against demos and live... In the meantime here's some rare (and not so rare) uploads of some music i've been listening to a lot lately:

Somethin' Else "Any Time Now" demo (1986)

Great '80s "NJ Shore Core". Thanks to Brett Beach for sending me the tape (which i ripped and cleaned in Audacity), and for the following info:

Sean Thompson - vox
Tony P. - bass
John - drums
Dirk - guitar

The "Any Time Now" demo was recorded in 1986. By 1987 or so Sean Fox was playing drums and Jason Burns on guitar. The band went on hiatus and started playing shows again in 1988 with Kevin Craig on vocals, Rich Walter on guitar and Sean Fox on drums. Sean left and Chris Macalouso took over. By this time Tony was the only original member left.
Anyone on Facebook, go to the NJHC Reunion - Jersey Shore page; there are a couple videos posted in the group from the Christmas show at the Fast Lane (Kevin line-up). Demo upload here.

Bitter Quarrel "More Torment" demo (1992)

Thanks to
Miikka H. (Livewire board) for the upload.

More great NJ hardcore.
Info from the band's Myspace page:

Brian - vocals
Alap - guitar
Keith - drums
Stein - bass
Ant - guitar
Wayne - guitar

Influences: Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Biohazard, Leeway. Death. Bad Brains and too many more to remember.

Bitter Quarrel started in the fall of 1989. By spring of 1990 we had the original lineup in place and started playing the summer of 1990. We played locally with a few out of state shows until our demise in 1992 when we decided to move on to bigger and better things. Our first songs were very basic punk rock with a touch of Oi! and some metal influence. By the time we broke up we had completly evolved into a pretty heavy band. We recorded two demos, four songs for a seven inch we never pressed and finally our "More Torment" demo which was never really released. I am glad that after all these years people can finally hear it. Demo upload here (excellent sound).

Leeway - Live @ JC Staddijk, Nijmegen, The Netherlands 12/07/1991

Thanks to Jean-Philippe (Livewire board) for the upload.
Soundboard set. Incredible sound, great performance and a great track-list (especially the second half, i'm more of a Born to Expire guy myself). All topped off with a Clash cover. Seriously, one of the best
live NYHC sets i've ever heard. Grab it here.

Some months back, a NY band called Activator sent me their 7". Great stuff here. Taking influences from NYHC bands like Burn, Cro-Mags and Bad Brains and mixing it with elements of metal and rock for a unique and fresh sound.

Thanks to all the people who have been helping me out lately and sending me lots of great music. Mike, Jon, Claude, Dave, Brett, Cooch... and especially Dan over at Old, Fast & Loud for letting me steal his Mecht Mensch discography, which i will eventually clean up and post. Get over to his blog and grab some tunes, especially the Brotherhood collection. I forgot how much that band rules.

Enjoy, and keep the suggestions coming.

Vin.
